My annual mole check was scheduled for 9 a.m. today. Just after 7 a.m. the doctor's office telephoned to reschedule the appointment for next week because the nurse practitioner I was supposed to see was "out of the office."
First, if she were ill, I would understand the need to reschedule at essentially the last minute. But, in that case, don't you think I would have been told that the nurse practitioner was ill instead of "out of the office?"
Second, I doubt she was called to a dermatology emergency. From what I understand, especially since I'm seeing a nurse practitioner, this medical professional is unlikely to have had to race to the emergency room to save someone from terminal eczema.
Third, I.T. Prof pointed out I missed my opportunity to inquire what sort of penalty I would have been charged if I had cancelled at 7 a.m. and ask for equal compensation. (Although with the office not answering the telephone at that hour, I'm not sure how I could have done that.) But, doesn't it seem wrong that the rescheduling relationship (barring illness or emergency) with medical professionals isn't equal?
I've had this problem with the dentist office several times. Cancellation fees are a scam. However, they probably had to say "out of the office" because telling you she was ill is against the rules, or she had to stay home to take care of her kid, etc.
